Big VIII recap Sept. 26, 2012
Centennial was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Carson 45-24. The Huskies came in at 16 in the state poll after placing at number 29 last week.
Roosevelt moved up to 284 from 367 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Big VIII. The Mustangs were able to make the jump by beating La Quinta 24-0.
Centennial's dynamic duo of Robert Webber and Chase Krivashei proved tough for the Colts to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Webber threw for 371 yards and two touchdowns and Krivashei had 139 yards receiving. Barry Ware helped Centennial's passing attack out by catching four balls for 84 yards.
Michael Darr was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 21 carries, he ran for 166 yards as Santiago beat Carson. Teammate Joey Camarillo added to the ground attack by rushing for 137 yards.
The Sharks' Darr and Dorion Barnett have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Darr has thrown for 950 yards this season, while Barnett, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 26 catches for 373 yards. Joseph Ajeigbe from Norco leads the league in rushing with 619 yards.
The Huskies were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in Big VIII. Earlier in the week, Centennial defeated Jimmy Nolan's team 45-24.
