Winthrop has gone 7-1 against Dirigo recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Ramblers will take on the Cougars at 4:00 p.m. Winthrop is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Winthrop barely beat Madison the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Ramblers never let the Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory on Monday. The Ramblers haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Trent Collin was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Jaxon August was incredible, going 1-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Brody Adams, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Dirigo). They came out on top against Hall-Dale by a score of 10-6 on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.
Like Winthrop, Dirigo also got a great game from a two-way player: Kaeden Swan. On the mound, he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Swan was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Caiden Skidgell, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Dominick Varnum was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
The victory got Dirigo back to even at 2-2. As for Winthrop, their record now sits at 4-1.
Dirigo's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Winthrop has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .475. It's a different story for Dirigo, though, as they've only averaged .310. Will they be able to contain Winthrop's hitters?
Everything went Winthrop's way against Dirigo in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Winthrop made off with a 13-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Ramblers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
