Basketball Recap: Southern Huntingdon County Comes Up Short

Southern Huntingdon County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 53-52 heartbreaker at the hands of the East Juniata Tigers. The Rockets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2021.

East Juniata got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Wrett Smith out in front who went 7 of 17 on his way to 21 points in addition to six assists and three steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least a third of East Juniata's points. Another player making a difference was Samuel Kopacki, who went 6 for 14 en route to 17 points and eight rebounds.

Southern Huntingdon County's loss dropped their record down to 9-9. As for East Juniata, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-14.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southern Huntingdon County will square off against North Star at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in North Star's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three matches. As for East Juniata, they will challenge Jersey Shore at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
