Softball Recap: Kenton Comes Up Short

Kenton fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Hardin Northern on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Polar Bears by a score of 11-9. The Wildcats just can't catch a break and have now endured four defeats in a row dating back to last season.

Alexis Ratliff put in work while hitting and pitching. She tossed six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Ratliff was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one RBI.

In other batting news, Kenton got a massive performance out of Riley Totten, who scored three runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-2. Totten is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Brayla Butler, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5.

Kenton's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Hardin Northern, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kenton will host Shawnee at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Indians have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.17 runs per game on average), something the Wildcats will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Hardin Northern, they will welcome Riverdale at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
