Basketball Recap: Las Plumas Piles Up the Points Against Live Oak

Las Plumas had to skate by with only a three-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 39-point drubbing they dealt Live Oak on Friday. The Las Plumas Thunderbirds breezed by the Live Oak Lions to the tune of 55-16. Given the Thunderbirds' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 501st, while the Lions are ranked 1182nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Las Plumas to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ava Hepworth, who posted eight points and 16 rebounds. Hepworth has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 15 times she's played. Madysen Wilson was another key player, putting up nine points.

Las Plumas was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Las Plumas is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.6 points per game. As for Live Oak, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Las Plumas will venture away from home to face off against Oroville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Live Oak, they will head out to challenge Gridley at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
