Baseball Recap: Cannon Takes a Loss

If Cannon was riding high fresh off their 12-6 takedown of Charlotte Country Day School on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cougars fell just short of the Buccaneers by a score of 6-5 on Thursday. The Cougars were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Buccaneers earlier this season, when they won 12-6.

Cannon got a good showing from Victor Lopez, who tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Lopez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mason Mierzwa made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played. Another player making a difference was John Murash, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Cannon has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 13 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-12 record this season. As for Charlotte Country Day School, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-19.

Cannon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Charlotte Country Day School, they will face off against Hickory Grove Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Considering the Buccaneers have lost eight straight at home and the Lions five straight on the road, this one might come down to who's more desperate to change their momentum.
