Football Recap: West Caldwell Falls to South Caldwell in First Game of Season

West Caldwell had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They took a blow against the South Caldwell Spartans on Friday, falling 62-26. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it 11 in a row.

West Caldwell lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jayden Quesenberry, who picked up 172 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Joshton Blankenship was another key player, throwing for 151 yards and three TDs.

Corbin McGhinnis had an outrageously good game for South Caldwell as he threw for 148 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes, and also punched in one rushing score. Those three passing touchdowns gave McGhinnis a new career-high.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Caldwell will head out to challenge Avery County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for South Caldwell, they are headed away from home for the first time to take on Hibriten at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
