Softball Game Preview: Lake Orion Dragons vs. Dakota Cougars

The Lake Orion Dragons will challenge the Dakota Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

While Dragons fans will have to keep waiting for their squad to come home, they shouldn't be too worried about the road trip considering the result of Thursday's season opener. Everything went their way against Woodhaven on Thursday as they made off with a 13-5 win.

Meanwhile, Dakota got the win against Algonac on Tuesday by a conclusive 9-2.

Brooke Cahill looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, Gianna Mangone and Jenna Higgins did most of the damage at the plate: Mangone scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while Higgins scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Annika Sylver, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Lake Orion came out on top in a nail-biter against Dakota when the teams last played back in June of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Will the Dragons repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
