Basketball Recap: Dezire Hailey and Janiyah Boyd Secure Win for Monroe

Monroe won the last time they faced Anson and things went their way on Thursday too. The Monroe Redhawks strolled past the Anson Bearcats with points to spare, taking the game 51-32. The Redhawks pushed the score to 41-15 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bearcats cut but never quite recovered from.

Monroe was led to victory by Janiyah Boyd and Dezire Hailey. Boyd went 10 for 24 en route to 24 points along with five assists and four steals, while Hailey dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it five consecutive games in which Boyd has scored at least a third of Monroe's points. Sade Robinson was another key player, putting up five points and nine boards.

Monroe smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in seven consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, Anson still got an impressive performance from Za'Kiah Hixson, who posted 16 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals.

Monroe's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Anson, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season.

Monroe wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 78-46 victory against Central Academy on the 17th. As for Anson, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 47-10 defeat against Forest Hills on the 17th.
