Basketball Recap: Southeast Comes Up Short

After flying high against West last Tuesday, Southeast came back down to earth. The Southeast Golden Buffalo came up short against the Northwest Grizzlies on Friday, falling 80-54. The Golden Buffalo were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Grizzlies apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February.

When it comes to explaining why Southeast lost, don't look at Parker Hardgrave. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards. The match was Hardgrave's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Collin Laws, who posted 11 points.

Even though they lost, Southeast smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Northwest's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was River Peters, who went 10 of 16 on his way to 26 points and eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Dj Brown, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 15 points in addition to seven assists and seven boards.

Southeast now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Northwest, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

Southeast wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 68-39 defeat against Heights on the 17th. As for Northwest, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 65-58 victory against East on the 17th.
