Softball Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Lake Braddock's Winning Streak

Lake Braddock dropped their record down to 17-6 on Friday, which also ended the team's six-game streak of wins. They lost 10-2 to the West Springfield Spartans. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Bruins, who until this matchup were averaging 3.17 runs allowed.

Lake Braddock saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Radha Samuel, who went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Another was Addison Forde, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

As for West Springfield, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 19-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.

On West Springfield's side, Andrea Yagui spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up 13 Ks. Yagui has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, West Springfield got a massive performance out of Kate Middendorf, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave Middendorf a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalie Coughlin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

As of now, neither Lake Braddock nor West Springfield have any future games scheduled.
