Mifflin won the last time they faced Northland and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Punchers put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 14-8 win. The result was nothing new for the Punchers, who have now won five matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Benny Villegas made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off only two hits. Villegas was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, Mifflin got a massive performance out of Adrian Hernandez, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. As for Northland, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 5-4-1.
Looking ahead, Mifflin will square off against Whetstone at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Braves' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Punchers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Northland, they will take on Marion-Franklin at 2:00 p.m. on Monday.
