Football Recap: Independence's Undefeated Season over After Five Games

If Independence was riding high fresh off their 41-0 takedown of Stockdale last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Falcons lost to the Kennedy Thunderbirds on the road by a 21-6 margin on Friday. The Falcons were red-hot offensively heading into the game (they scored no less than 31 points in the four matchups prior), but the Thunderbirds' defense proved too tough.

Despite the loss, Independence still got an impressive performance from Gunter Golla Iii, who rushed for 33 yards and one TD, and also threw for 143 yards on eight of 24 attempts.

Jace Demacabalin was his usual excellent self, rushing for 257 yards and three touchdowns for Kennedy. Demacabalin has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last three times he's played.

Having lost for the first time this season, Independence fell to 4-1. As for Kennedy, they pushed their record up to 4-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season.

Coming up, Independence will challenge Liberty at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons will be up against the Patriots' rather soft defense (which has allowed 38.6 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Kennedy, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Delano at 7:30 p.m. on October 3. The Thunderbirds will be up against the Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 33 points per match), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
