Softball Recap: Six Straight Home Victories for Burney

While Burney's victory against Mt. Shasta wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Raiders sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Bears on Monday. The Raiders haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Mia Perez and Alexis Witzel were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Perez struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Witzel pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Perez has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season. At bat, Perez went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run, while Witzel went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Natalia Maldonado, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.

Burney's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Mt. Shasta, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-8-1 record this season.

Burney will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Fall River at 2:00 p.m. As for Mt. Shasta, they will head out to square off against Modoc at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Braves have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season.
