Baseball Recap: Costa Mesa Extends Home Winning Streak to Nine

While Costa Mesa's win against Covina wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mustangs narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Colts 8-7. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-1 two weeks ago.

Owen Dever was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Omar Gutierrez was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Costa Mesa's win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-6. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Covina, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-11 record this season.

Costa Mesa will challenge Buena Park at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs are facing the Coyotes at the right time seeing as the Coyotes are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Covina, they will take on West Covina at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Colts surely won't give up without a fight.
