Softball Game Preview: Greeneville Greene Devils vs. Cherokee Chiefs

Greeneville has gone a perfect 9-0 against Cherokee recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Greene Devils will look to defend their home field against the Chiefs at 5:30 p.m. Greeneville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.

Greeneville made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Grainger, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Greene Devils blew past the Grizzlies 17-7 on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Greene Devils needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

Greeneville got a massive performance out of Adaley Lamons, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Those five RBI gave Lamons a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaley Garland, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI.

Lamons wasn't the only one making solid contact: Greeneville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The Greene Devils are 7-2 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Cherokee was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They came up short against Volunteer, falling 16-0.

Greeneville's victory bumped their record up to 11-12. As for Cherokee, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.

Everything went Greeneville's way against Cherokee in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Greeneville made off with a 12-3 win. Do the Greene Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chiefs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
