Basketball Recap: Dolores Takes a Loss

Dolores came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Dove Creek Bulldogs, falling 68-48. The defeat continues a trend for the Bears in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now lost four in a row.

Dove Creek's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Liam Hassell led the charge by going 12-for-24 to rack up 26 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. The dominant performance gave Hassell a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Sheldon Gardner, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Dolores' loss dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Dove Creek, the victory (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 15-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Dolores will host Nucla at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Dove Creek, they will face off against Mancos at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
