Softball Recap: Wakeland Now 12-2 over Last 14 Games

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Wakeland had no problem doing just that on Friday. Everything went their way against the Lebanon Trail Trail Blazers as they made off with a 9-3 victory. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 18 matches by six runs or more this season.

Jordan Mcnees spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, Lauren McIllwain and Reese Thomas did most of the damage at the plate: McIllwain went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Thomas went 3-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most hits Thomas has posted since back in March of 2024. Kaylee Kinney was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Wakeland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in seven consecutive contests.

Wakeland has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Lebanon Trail, the loss snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 15-5-2 record.

Looking ahead, Wakeland will square off against Melissa on Saturday. The Cardinals will roll in looking for their 32nd straight victory, something the Wolverines surely won't give up without a fight. Lebanon Trail does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
