Recap: Cypress Creek Bears vs. Jones Fightin' Tigers
The Cypress Creek Bears came tearing into Thursday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They snuck past Jones with a 53-47 victory. Given Cypress Creek's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 232nd, while Jones is ranked 485th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Timberlyn Campbell continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 18 points along with two steals. Musu Sheriff was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
When it comes to explaining why Jones lost, one person who can't be blamed is Bo'Niyha Simpson. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 17 points and 18 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Antwoinette Glover, who scored nine points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Cypress Creek's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.5 points per game. As for Jones, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-12.
Cypress Creek will be playing at home against Oak Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Oak Ridge's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matches. As for Jones, they will head out on the road to square off against East River at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
