Football Recap: Trabuco Hills' Win Ends Four-Game Losing Streak on the Road

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against El Toro, Trabuco Hills was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top against the Brea Olinda Wildcats by a score of 43-36. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 130th, while the Wildcats are ranked 270th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jackson Verplancke had a dynamite game, throwing for 296 yards and six TDs while completing 82.1% of his passes. Joshua Fitch was Verplancke's top target, picking up 67 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Trabuco Hills' defensive line stepped up as well, laying out Gavyn Nicholson. three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Andrew Batayola, Skyler Richey, and Andrew Davis, who each picked up one sack apiece.

When it comes to explaining why Brea Olinda lost, don't look at Nicholson. Despite the final result, he rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry, and also threw for 53 yards and one TD. Nicholson showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 50 yards. Jio Kang also helped with two scores in total.

Trabuco Hills' victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-1. As for Brea Olinda, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.

Trabuco Hills didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 35-13 defeat against Corona del Mar on the 26th. As for Brea Olinda, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Westminster at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. This will be the Wildcats' first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
