Softball Recap: Grants Picks Up Seventh Consecutive Win

Grants came tearing into Monday's game with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Newcomb Skyhawks with a sharp 18-3 win. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by nine runs or more this season.

Grants got a massive performance out of Aubrhyanna Garcia, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Those five RBI gave Garcia a new career-high. Madisyn Chavez was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Grants kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive contests.

Grants' victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-8. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Newcomb, they are on a ten-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-14.

Looking ahead, Grants will be playing at home against St. Pius X at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Sartans will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Pirates surely won't give up without a fight. As for Newcomb, they will face off against Wingate at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
