Basketball Recap: Christian Powell's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Severance over Lutheran

Severance lost against Lutheran back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Severance Silver Knights took a 54-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lutheran Lions. The matchup marked the Silver Knights' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Severance lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Christian Powell, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Varney, who posted 13 points and five rebounds.

Kade Speckman was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 13 boards for Lutheran. That makes it three consecutive games in which Speckman has scored at least a third of Lutheran's points. Logan Clarkson was another key player, putting up six points.

Severance's loss dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Lutheran, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-2.

The future could be bright for both Severance and Lutheran: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Severance will try to hand Fossil Ridge their third-straight defeat when the two meet at 1:00 p.m. on January 4, 2025. Meanwhile, Lutheran will try to hand Frederick their third-straight loss when the two meet at 2:00 p.m. on January 4, 2025.
