Softball Recap: Merryville Wins Going Away Against Basile

It was a proper cat-fight when Merryville faced off against Basile on Wednesday. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Bearcats. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won nine games by six runs or more so far this season.

Brooklyn Steward looked comfortable as she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Shaylee Lott, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Jolee Harrell was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3.

Merryville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .517. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Merryville and bumps their season record up to 10-11. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.0 runs over those games. As for Basile, they now have a losing record of 6-7-2.

Looking ahead, Merryville is taking a road trip to face off against Bell City at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Basile, they will head out to square off against Grand Lake at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
