Baseball Recap: George Washington Has No Trouble Against Thomas Jefferson

George Washington hadn't done well against Thomas Jefferson recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Patriots were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over the Spartans. Considering the Patriots have won five matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Luke Wiederholt was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adrian Reed, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Matt Holliger was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

With the victory, George Washington broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 6-6. As for Thomas Jefferson, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. George Washington will venture away from home to take on Denver South at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Ravens have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Thomas Jefferson, they will head out on the road to face off against Denver North at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.36 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
