Preview: Augusta Orioles vs. Abilene Cowboys
Augusta is 1-7 against Abilene since December of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Augusta Orioles will head out on the road to face off against the Abilene Cowboys at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Augusta focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Friday.
Augusta couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. The match between Augusta and Goddard wasn't particularly close, with Augusta falling 46-30.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Presley Woodsmall, who scored 9 points.
Meanwhile, Abilene lost to Rock Creek on the road by a decisive 44-26 margin on Tuesday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Abilene in their matchups with Rock Creek: they've now lost four in a row.
Augusta's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Abilene, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
Augusta was able to grind out a solid win over Abilene when the teams last played back in December of 2022, winning 38-25. The rematch might be a little tougher for Augusta since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
