Softball Recap: Cambridge Bluejays vs. Waterloo Pirates
Cambridge extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-7 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Waterloo Pirates. That's two games in a row now that the Bluejays have lost by exactly two runs.
As for Waterloo, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games.
For Waterloo's part, Ally Schaumann spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up nine Ks. Schaumann has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Callie Davison was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Marissa Spoke, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cambridge will challenge Lakeside Lutheran at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Waterloo, they will square off against Belleville at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
