Baseball Recap: Baker County Triumphs

Baker County won the last time they faced Ridgeview and things went their way on Thursday too. The Wildcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Panthers. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.

Nicholas Chowaniec made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Baker County is undefeated when Chowaniec posts two or more runs, but 4-6 otherwise.

Chowaniec wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Blane Chauncey, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Baker County's record is now 8-6. As for Ridgeview, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-5.

Looking ahead, Baker County will head out on the road to square off against Cornerstone Classical Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Ridgeview, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Ribault at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.9 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
