Preview: Hannibal Pirates vs. Marshall Owls
Hannibal is 8-2 against Marshall since February of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Hannibal Pirates will look to defend their home court against the Marshall Owls at 8:00 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
Last Tuesday, Hannibal lost to Moberly on the road by a decisive 59-41 margin. Hannibal has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Marshall pushed their score all the way to 62 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. Their rough 82-62 loss to Mexico might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Marshall can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 363rd, while Mexico is ranked 39th).
Hannibal's defeat dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Marshall, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 8-12.
Hannibal didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Marshall in their previous matchup back in January, but they still walked away with a 61-57 victory. Does Hannibal have another victory up their sleeve, or will Marshall turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
