Football Recap: Mooresville's Losing Streak Snapped at Three Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Whiteland, Mooresville was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They took down the Martinsville Artesians 31-17. This was payback for the Pioneers, who suffered a 27-18 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Mooresville had a senior duo take command as Tyler Denny rushed for 193 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 7.7 yards per carry and Connor Cruz rushed for 74 yards and two TDs. Cruz's passing game has become a key predictor of the Pioneers' success: the team is 3-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-3 otherwise.

Mooresville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 272 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in three consecutive contests.

Despite the loss, Martinsville still got an impressive performance from Lucas Dewey, who rushed for 152 yards and one touchdown.

The victory snapped Mooresville's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 4-4 record. As for Martinsville, their record is now 3-5.

Mooresville has already played their next game, a 42-21 win against Perry Meridian on the 17th. As for Martinsville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 14-7 loss against Plainfield on the 17th.
