Basketball Game Preview: Monterey Wildcats vs. Smith County Owls

Monterey is 2-8 against Smith County since November of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Monterey Wildcats are taking a road trip to square off against the Smith County Owls at 6:00 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

Monterey is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Saturday. They took a 51-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of Van Buren County.

Meanwhile, Smith County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell 67-54 to Jackson County. While losing is never fun, the Owls can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 278th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 110th).

Smith County's defeat dropped their record down to 6-15. As for Monterey, their loss dropped their record down to 6-17.

Monterey was taken down by Smith County 68-41 in their previous meeting back in January. Can Monterey avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
