Basketball Recap: Murrieta Valley Has No Trouble Against La Habra

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Santa Margarita, Murrieta Valley was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They wrapped up 2024 with a 53-36 win over the La Habra Highlanders. The 53-point effort marked the Nighthawks' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Murrieta Valley found their leader in freshman Jaizahn Lewis, who posted 17 points and eight rebounds. Lewis' afternoon made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Parker Steffen, who put up 11 points and seven assists.

Murrieta Valley is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for La Habra, with the defeat, they broke their 11-game winning streak and moved their record to 14-2.

Murrieta Valley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 78-50 loss against Ygnacio Valley on the 27th. As for La Habra, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 55-50 defeat against Pacifica Christian/Orange County on the 27th.
