Softball Recap: Copper Canyon Comes Up Short

Copper Canyon extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 5-14 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 15-14 heartbreaker at the hands of the Glendale Cardinals. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (13), the Aztecs still had to take the loss.

Maria Espinoza was cooking despite her team's loss, going 4-for-5 with three RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Nevaeh Aldana, who got on base in two of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

As for Glendale, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since April 3rd.

On Glendale's side, Reeanah Sesma was incredible, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. The dominant performance also gave Sesma a new career-high in RBI (five). Tzintzuni Hernandez Garcia was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with six stolen bases and three runs.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Copper Canyon will host Lee Williams at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The Aztecs will need to watch out since the Volunteers have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests. As for Glendale, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Cortez at 4:00 p.m.
