Softball Recap: Gulf Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Gulf barely beat Central the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Buccaneers were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over the Bears on Thursday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 7-6 back in February.

Jeovanna Carter was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Olivia Wiley was excellent, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya Rogers, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Gulf was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

The win (which was Gulf's third in a row) raised their record to 9-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Central, they dropped their record down to 3-17 with the loss, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gulf will face off against Sunlake at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Central, they will take on Wiregrass Ranch at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bulls will roll in looking for their 16th straight win, something the Bears surely won't give up without a fight.
