Baseball Recap: Middletown Find Success

Middletown had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Kingston on Monday. The Middie Bears' pitchers stepped up to hand the Tigers an 8-0 shutout. The Middie Bears not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 3rd (when they won 12-1).

Reinaldo Rios tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over six innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Daniel Aviles was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two doubles. He is becoming a predictor of Middletown's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 6-7 when he doesn't).

Middletown's win bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Kingston, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-11.

Looking ahead, Kingston will challenge Newburgh Free Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Middletown will be paying especially close attention to the Tigers' contest: after the Tigers face off against the Goldbacks, they'll take on Middletown again at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
