Baseball Recap: Center Hill Comes Up Short

Center Hill fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Grenada on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 11-6 to the Chargers. The Mustangs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Chargers earlier this season, when they won 1-0.

Mac Atkins was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Deshann Hannah was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper McCool, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Center Hill's loss dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Grenada, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Center Hill will challenge Oxford at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Chargers' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Mustangs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Grenada, they will be playing at home against Saltillo at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
