East Hardy has gone 9-1 against Pendleton County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Cougars will take on the Wildcat at 5:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
East Hardy fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Frankfort on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 11-10. The loss continues a trend for the Cougars in their meetings with the Falcons: they've now lost six in a row.
Evan Hamilton stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 4-for-5 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double. Shayne Sisler was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Pendleton County got the win against Lincoln on Wednesday by a conclusive 10-4. The Wildcat might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.
Travis Owens was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 19 consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Pendleton County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 10-1 (and 5-15 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Jaxon Simon was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four RBI, one triple, and one run. Pendleton County is 3-1 when Simon posts three or more RBI, but 12-15 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Chase Owens, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Pendleton County has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-16 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for East Hardy, their defeat dropped their record down to 20-11.
East Hardy got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April against Pendleton County by a conclusive 6-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
