Basketball Recap: Northern Comes Up Short

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Northern can now relate to. They lost to St. Charles on the road by a 53-37 margin on Monday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against St. Charles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 34-28 back in January.

Despite the loss, Northern still got an impressive performance from Erin Murphy, who posted seven points and 11 rebounds. Murphy is becoming a predictor of Northern's success: when she posts at least ten boards the team is 12-5 (and 1-6 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Sydney Prince, who had 11 points and eight rebounds.

It was another big night for Kyoko Johnson-Reeves, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten boards for St. Charles. Johnson-Reeves has been hot recently, having also posted three or more blocks the last three times she's played. Jayla Coleman was another key player, going 6-for-12 en route to 14 points.

Northern's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 13-11. As for St. Charles, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 16-6.

Northern does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. Charles, they have already played their next match, a 56-51 loss against Oxon Hill on the 5th.
