Volleyball Recap: Greenwich Comes Up Short

Greenwich lost against Bridgeport Central back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Cardinals fell 3-1 to the Hilltoppers.

Greenwich started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 25-27, 25-21, 25-22, 25-20.

Despite the loss, Greenwich saw an underclassman step up: freshman Gabriel Lazo had 18 assists and six digs. Lazo has been hot, having posted 13 or more assists the last five times he's played.

Leading Bridgeport Central to victory were Johnathan Rivera and Giancarlo Perez Antonio. Rivera had 11 digs and one assist, while Perez Antonio had 11 digs. Those 11 digs gave Perez Antonio a new career-high. Jerson Bustillo also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Greenwich's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Bridgeport Central, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-7.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Greenwich is set to face off against their familiar foe Staples at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Bridgeport Central will take on rival Westhill at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
