Softball Recap: Monroe Triumphs

Monroe had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Portage Warriors 3-2. The Cheesemakers haven't had any issues with the Warriors recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Kaegann Paulson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Maddi Rueggsegger, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaya Holverson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.

Monroe's victory bumped their record up to 20-9. As for Portage, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-10.

Coming up, Monroe will take on Mount Horeb at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cheesemakers 3, the Vikings 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Portage does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
