Softball Preview: Warren Warriors vs. Kountze Lions
Warren has been on the road for three straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Kountze Lions at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
Last Thursday, Warren suffered a tough 17-1 defeat at the hands of East Chambers.
Meanwhile, Kountze put the finishing touches on their 14th blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Buna with a sharp 10-2 win. The victory was familiar territory for Kountze who now have 11 in a row.
Kyla Parker made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). Parker has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 15 consecutive pitching appearances. Parker was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and a double.
In other batting news, Kountze got a massive performance out of Emily Smith, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with a home run, three runs, and three RBI. Smith hasn't dropped below three RBI for three straight games. Shea Griffin was another key contributor, going 3-for-4 with three runs, a triple, and a double.
Warren dropped their record down to 1-9 with that loss, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Kountze, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 25-4 record this season.
Warren suffered a grim 17-0 defeat to Kountze in their previous meeting back in March.
