Basketball Recap: Veterans Memorial Now 3-1 over Last Four Games

On Friday, the Veterans Memorial Chargers beat the Edinburg North Cougars 56-47. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Chargers.

Despite the defeat, Edinburg North saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Raul Palacios went 8 of 13 en route to 19 points. Palacios' evening made it 16 games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Enrique Leal Jr, who posted eight points.

Veterans Memorial has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-12 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points per game. As for Edinburg North, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-11.

Veterans Memorial and St. Joseph Academy will round out the year against one another at at 12:00 p.m. on December 28th. Veterans Memorial is facing St. Joseph Academy at the right time seeing as St. Joseph Academy is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Edinburg North, they will challenge Rio Grande City at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. Edinburg North is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.4 points per game this season.
