Baseball Game Preview: Sun Valley Vanguards vs. Avon Grove Red Devils

Sun Valley is 1-8 against Avon Grove since May of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Vanguards are taking a road trip to challenge the Red Devils at 4:00 p.m. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Sun Valley's offense. They came up short against Downingtown East on Thursday, falling 10-0.

Meanwhile, Avon Grove lost 12-2 to Owen J. Roberts on Friday.

Avon Grove saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Christian Ruohonen, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Avon Grove's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Sun Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Sun Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Avon Grove struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Sun Valley couldn't quite get it done against Avon Grove in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 as they fell 6-1. Can the Vanguards avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
