Football Preview: McLane Highlanders vs. Santa Maria Saints
After starting their season with two straight games on the road, McLane is finally coming home. They will be defending their home-fieldthey go up against the Santa Maria Saints at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Last Friday, McLane blew past Mendota, posting a 48-21 win on the road.
Noah Zamora was a one-man wrecking crew for McLane as he threw for 321 yards and four touchdowns while completing 71.4% of his passes, and also rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown. Julyen Scott was Zamora's top target, picking up 92 receiving yards and a touchdown.
McLane wouldn't let Mendota keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force four fumbles. It was truly a group effort as Juan Raygoza, Da'Zir Newhouse, and Sergio Jacuinde picked up one apiece. That's the most total yards Newhouse has posted since back in September of 2023.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, McLane was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 469 total yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mendota only gained 289.
Meanwhile, Santa Maria never let their opponents score on Friday. They claimed a resounding 44-0 victory over Del Oro at home. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Saints.
Michael Herrera-Chavez had a dynamite game for Santa Maria, rushing for 185 yards and five touchdowns on only 13 carries. With that strong performance, Herrera-Chavez is now averaging an impressive 2.7 rushing touchdowns per game. Another player making a difference was Juan Belmontes, who rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown on only 15 carries.
