Baseball Recap: Mineral County Takes a Loss

Mineral County lost against Tonopah back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Mineral County fell just short of Tonopah by a score of 10-9. The matchup marked the Serpents' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Chase Reeves was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over five innings pitched. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 5.4 strikeouts per game. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Reeves is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season.

In other batting news, Aadan Shalosky made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Robert Wilson was another key player, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Even though they lost, Mineral County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in eight consecutive games dating back to last season.

Mineral County suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 4-3. As for Tonopah, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Mineral County beat Tonopah by a score of 21-11 later that day.
