Basketball Recap: Mt. Vernon Comes Up Short

Mt. Vernon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 16th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were outmatched by the Tecumseh Braves and fell 65-31. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 366th, while the Braves are ranked 122nd).

Mt. Vernon's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taylor Ellison, who posted four points. The dominant performance also gave Ellison a new career-high in assists (three). Cassidy Jones was another key player, putting up four points.

Even though they lost, Mt. Vernon was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Mt. Vernon's defeat dropped their record down to 0-15. As for Tecumseh, they moved to 8-5 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mt. Vernon will square off against Fairfield at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Tecumseh, they will head out to square off against Gibson Southern at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Gibson Southern is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.9 points per game this season.
