Football Recap: Widefield Gladiators vs. Sand Creek Scorpions
Widefield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were dealt a 51-17 loss at the hands of the Sand Creek Scorpions. The Gladiators were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Scorpions apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in November of 2015.
Sand Creek found their leader in underclassman Ethan Mangrum, who rushed for 210 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 12.4 yards per carry, and also threw for 33 yards and a touchdown. Those 210 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Mangrum. Achilles Evans was another key player, rushing for 89 yards and two touchdowns on only 11 carries.
Widefield's loss dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Sand Creek, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
Widefield will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Mesa Ridge at 12:00 p.m. on October 5th. Sand Creek will also get a bit of a break before their next contest: they'll face off against Thornton at 7:00 p.m. on October 4th. Sand Creek will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each game than the last.
