Basketball Game Preview: Spanaway Lake Sentinels vs. Yelm Tornados

Spanaway Lake is 1-7 against Yelm since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Spanaway Lake Sentinels will square off against the Yelm Tornados at 7:00 p.m. Spanaway Lake will be strutting in after a win while Yelm will be coming in after a defeat.

Spanaway Lake got their first taste of in-conference action this week and they started things off strong. They blew past Graham-Kapowsin, posting a 53-23 victory.

Meanwhile, Yelm was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 15th straight loss. They were outmatched by Bethel and fell 62-20. While losing is never fun, the Tornados can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 312th, while the Bison are ranked 50th).

Yelm's defeat dropped their record down to 1-15. As for Spanaway Lake, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 6-9 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Spanaway Lake against Yelm in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, as the team secured a 64-5 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Spanaway Lake since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
