Baseball Recap: Poth Beats Luling for Their Third Straight Victory

Poth waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 15-2 margin over the Luling Eagles. The Pirates might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Major Luna made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Austin Simmons and Lucas Trevino did most of the damage at the plate: Simmons scored two runs while going 3-for-5, while Trevino scored three runs while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave Simmons a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Walker Stevens, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Poth kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive contests.

Poth's record now sits at 14-4. As for Luling, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-13.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Poth will take on rival Nixon-Smiley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Luling is set to square off against their familiar foe Goliad at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
