Baseball Recap: Sumrall Extends Home Winning Streak to Six

Sumrall proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by ten) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Florence Eagles, sneaking past 5-4. The victory was familiar territory for the Bobcats, who have now won three contests in a row.

Sumrall's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Leo Odom, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Sumrall pushed their record up to 19-7 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Florence, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-5.

Sumrall and Florence should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Mississippi Rankings. The Bobcats will take on Pass Christian at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday with a big rank advantage (13 vs. 164). Meanwhile, Florence (ranked 16th) will meet Ridgeland (ranked 97th) at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Eagles 3.1, the Titans 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
