Preview: Aquinas Fightin' Irish vs. Macon County Bulldogs
The Aquinas Fightin' Irish will take on the Macon County Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Aquinas had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past Glascock County 49-28. Winning may never get old, but Aquinas sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Jack Rhodes and Jim Franklin were among the main playmakers for Aquinas as the former picked up 205 receiving yards and five touchdowns and the latter threw for 352 yards and six touchdowns on only 19 passes. Another player making a difference was Buddyrow Garrer, who picked up 111 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Macon County came tearing into Friday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on Christian Heritage with a sharp 30-7 win. Given Macon County's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked 139th, while Christian Heritage is ranked 334th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Macon County can attribute much of their success to Tyler Felder, who rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Felder was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 55 yards.
Aquinas pushed their record up to 9-2 with that victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 35.0 points per game. As for Macon County, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.
